Jaroslav Zapletal

He has exhibited independently since 1962 (Horácké Theatre in Jihlava), since 1963 he has participated in the shows of domestic scenography both at home and abroad, membership exhibitions of the regional section of the Association of Czech Visual Artists and exhibitions of pedagogues from the art department of Plzeň’s Teacher Training College. In the initial years of the normalization process he artistically shared in big ideological exhibitions promoting the communist regime (50 Years of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in the West Bohemian Region in 1971, 25 Years of the Victorious February in the West Bohemian Region in 1973 and 30th Anniversary of Liberation by the Soviet Army in 1975). He is the creator of several public implementations. In 1993 he presented his works in the West Bohemian Gallery in Plzeň (Masné krámy), in 2005 in the House of Europe in Plzeň and in 2007 the West Bohemian Gallery in Plzeň organized him an intimate retrospective exhibition in exhibition hall No. 13. In 2002 he was awarded the 1st prize in the category of drawing at the international biennial of miniatures in Canada’s Québec.
Between 1994 and 1996, Jaroslav Zapletal was chairman of the Union of Visual Artists of the Czech Republic, between 1990 and 2004 he was chairman of the Union of Visual Artists of the Plzeň Region and since 1996 he has been working as chairman of the organizational committee of Plzeň’s Drawing Biennial, of which he has been president since 2005.
